Scotland 2022 - Day 1: Inverness

Less than 12 hours after leaving the hustle and bustle of London Euston our sleeper train crawled into a rather damp and chilly Inverness. We all managed to get a decent amount of sleep and the kids enjoyed snuggling under the covers when they should have been getting up!

After a nice breakfast at a local cafe we set out to explore Inverness by way of The Great Heilan Coo Trail. This is 22 painted Highland Cows spread across Inverness and the wider Highland area. Unfortunately a couple of the Inverness cows were missing, can you spot the improvisations? We hope to pick up a few more on our drive over the next couple of weeks.

We then headed through the pretty Ness Islands before letting the kids run off steam at Whin Park whilst we sheltered from the rain and watched a little bit of Norwich v Wigan on the NowTV app!

We had originally planned a trip on the miniature railway in Whin park, but it was unfortunately closed due to the weather. It was soon time to go and collect our motorhome, after a lovely stone baked pizza from the on site cabin at the Torvean Caravan Park, that doubles up as the HQ for North500 Motorhomes.

Our motorhome is a modern Roller Team Zefiro 675 and I've found it relatively easy to drive, including quite a long reversing manoeuvre when picking up our bags from left luggage at Inverness station! What has let it, and the company, down is the number of small broken internal items and the state of the booster seats that they offered, including one that was a larger seat snapped in half. We were not happy so it was first stop to Halfords to buy our own booster seats, then Asda to stock up on food.

We're now at our first campsite, in the small town of Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness. We've had our first meal from the small kitchenette that went okay and we're looking forward to finding out more about Nessie when we explore the area tomorrow.
