2019 - Day 1: Lowestoft to Utrecht

The summation of today is we survived... just!

A 5am alarm call and an A12 road closure were not the best starts to the day but we loaded the kids in pyjamas into the car and we were on our way.  A smooth boarding on to the ferry at Harwich was followed by an hours' delay in departure and if we were questioning our sanity on the decision to do this trip after the 15th "When is the ferry going to leave?", then you can imagine how we were feeling after the 115th!

Inbetween the relentless questioning we did manage a few moments enjoying the sunshine on the deck of the Stena Hollandica and had our first photos with 'Cub the Travelling Bear'.  Made by Forrest, Cub is going to try to get in on a photo at each of the locations we visit.

If anyone is planning on doing the ferry the one thing we would definitely recommend is paying the extra for a cabin.  It was invaluable to not have to lug the bags around everywhere, have somewhere to take a nap and also an area where the kids can be contained and amuse themselves by looking out the window and finally stop annoying all the other passengers with their renditions of "Baby Shark"!

A rare peaceful moment.

After a short drive to Utrecht and a picnic on the floor of the hotel room it is now time to get some proper sleep before a busy day with Thomas and Miffy tomorrow.
