Ireland Motorhome 2023

After surviving our first motorhome experience in Scotland last year, we're back on the road and heading across the Irish Sea to the Republic of Ireland. It will be the first overseas trip for the current S-Max, before we pick up our motorhome from Vanderlust for a week of exploring the Wild Atlantic Way.

Par Without a Car 2023

A trip with Amber's parents to Par in Cornwall by train. Would we be able to visit a selection of local attractions, including the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the costal towns of Looe and Fowey, just relying on public transport? Read this post-trip blog to find out!

Scotland Motorhome 2022

With covid-19 related restrictions forcing us to cancel our 2021 roadtrip to Austria, we made the decision to stay in the UK this year! When Jana and Petr, our friends from the Czech Republic, asked whether we would like to join them on a motorhome driving holiday in Scotland, it was time get planning. To avoid the long drive before the trip we are travelling to Inverness on the overnight sleeper train, then hiring our motorhome for two weeks of exploring the North Coast 500, Isle of Skye and finishing off with a few nights in a hotel in Aviemore before returning south again on the sleeper. Well, that's the plan assuming rail strikes and extreme weather don't get in the way!

European Roadtrip 2021 - Cancelled

We had hoped to embark on a roadtrip to Austria, however with Covid-19 restrictions now more widespread than during the summer of 2020, we decided it was best to cancel this trip. Maybe it's one we can try to do again in the future...

Isle of Wight 2020

With 2020 continuing to be a very strange year we decided that a short break during the October halfterm would be much needed. We originally thought about a return to the Jurassic Coast on the south coast of the mainland, somewhere we visited in 2018, but eventually decided on trip to the Isle of Wight giving Matt a last chance for a ride on the Island Line vintage 1938 trains before they are retired at the end of the year.

European Roadtrip 2020

We survived our first major road trip with the kids in 2019, taking in the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium and France. Whilst restrictions due to COVID-19 have changed our plans somewhat, we're back on the road (and rails) this year and we will blog our adventures here as we embark on The Julers' European Roadtrip 2020!

European Roadtrip 2019

When our friends Jana and Petr decided to move back home to the Czech Republic the offer that we'd always be welcome to visit was made. This, coupled with Forrest starting school in September and the prospect of many years ahead of having to pay school holiday rates, prompted us to look into the feasibility of a European Roadtrip. After considerable planning, confirming with our friends that we were indeed welcome and finally a sanity check that this was a good idea, everything was booked!

We’ll be covering approximately 3,000km over the next three weeks, taking us through the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany again, Luxemburg, Belgium and France. We’ve done some long driving holidays before, but never with the kids, so I’m sure it will be an experience!

European Babymoon 2014

We decided that with Amber pregnant with our first child it would be good to have one final holiday, at least for many years, as a couple! Not wanting to fly at 7 months pregnant, we thought it would be a good opportunity to take the train from our then new home in High Wycombe to Venice, stopping off in Zurich on the way there, and Turin on the way back.

This flashback photoblog is a selection of our favourite images from the trip. We look forward to being able to take similar adventures with the kids when they're old enough to carry their own bags!

Southern California 2013

We wanted to visit San Diego on our honeymoon roadtrip, however we just couldn't fit it into our schedule! So for our first anniversary we returned to California for a ten day break taking in San Diego, Anza-Borrego Desert and the southern end of the Pacific Coast Highway up to Los Angeles. In this flashback photoblog we retrace our trip with some of our favourite captures.

American Honeymoon 2012

A flashback to 2012 and our honeymoon trip to Western America. We blogged this adventure at the time and this is a reproduction taken from our wedding blog, with a few extra photos.

Hong Kong and Australia 2011

Our first major adventure together and it was a big one! A three week trip taking in Hong Kong and Australia, including the Great Ocean Road, Melbourne, the Australian F1 Grand Prix, Cairns, Daintree Rainforest, Sydney and the Blue Mountains. There was also the small event of an engagement thrown in for good measure!

This flashback blog covers some of the highlights from the 10th anniversary of our trip Down Under.
